AI Search Optimization (GEO)

When customers ask ChatGPT, will it name your business?

More people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google's AI Overviews for a recommendation instead of scrolling through search results. These tools write one answer and mention a few businesses. We set up your website, listings and social profiles so they can find you, understand what you offer, and cite you correctly.

Where can I host a private dinner for 30 people in Philadelphia?

AI assistant

A few places handle groups that size. [Your restaurant] has a private room for up to 40 guests, a set party menu, and a request form on its website. Recent Google reviews mention easy planning and good service for birthdays and work dinners.

What changed

Search now ends with an answer

A search used to return ten links and the customer picked one. In ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google's AI Mode, the assistant reads the pages for them and writes a short answer with two or three names.

The businesses it mentions are the ones whose information it could find, read and check against other sources. A business with a great website can still be left out if its details are hidden, scattered or contradict each other.

It reads text, not design

If your services, prices or hours only appear inside images, sliders or PDFs, the assistant may never see them.

It compares sources

Your website, Google Business Profile, Yelp and LinkedIn should say the same thing. When they disagree, you are less likely to be named.

It quotes specifics

A page that says who you serve, where, and how pricing works is easier to cite than a page of slogans.

See it happen

The answer your customer reads

This is what a good result looks like: a customer asks a question, and the assistant names the business, explains why, and links its sources.

The Google tab is real. When someone asks Google about our agency today, its AI Overview describes us accurately, using the facts on our site and profiles.

Who can build my restaurant one website with its own admin panel, so I can stop paying for five different apps?

Look at Marketing And More By G, a small business agency based in Greater Philadelphia. They design and code custom websites with private admin panels for menus, events, party and catering requests and job applications.

One restaurant client cut about $700 a month in software subscriptions after the switch. They offer a free 30-minute consultation.

SEO and GEO

GEO is built on top of SEO

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. Most AI assistants take their sources from a search index, so a site that Google and Bing can't crawl rarely shows up in AI answers. SEO gets you found. GEO is the extra work that decides whether you get mentioned.

The platforms

Where each AI assistant gets its information

Each platform finds sources in its own way. Your customers use all of them, so we cover all of them.

ChatGPT

OAI-SearchBot + Bing index

OpenAI runs its own search crawler and also relies on Microsoft Bing. A site that Bing hasn't indexed is hard for ChatGPT search to find.

Google AI Overviews and AI Mode

Googlebot + Google Business Profile

Built on the regular Google Search index. Your Business Profile, reviews and structured data shape the local answers.

Gemini

Google Search + Google Maps

Uses Google's search and Maps data for current information and local businesses. Strong Google foundations carry over.

Microsoft Copilot

Bingbot + Bing Places

Runs on Bing. Bing Webmaster Tools, Bing Places and IndexNow keep your pages and details current there.

Perplexity

PerplexityBot + live search

Searches the web for every question and shows its sources, so pages that state facts plainly get cited more often.

Claude

Claude-SearchBot + live web search

Anthropic's assistant searches the web when a question needs current information. Clear, well-structured pages are easier for it to quote.

These platforms change how they search often. We keep track and adjust the work when they do.

What we do

The work behind being mentioned

GEO is a set of specific tasks across your website, your listings and your social profiles. This is what we do for clients.

Website

Make your site readable

  • robots.txt rules that let in the search crawlers you want: Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot
  • A clear decision on AI training crawlers such as GPTBot and Google-Extended, made with you
  • A clean XML sitemap in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, plus IndexNow so updates are picked up quickly
  • Key text placed in the page itself instead of inside images, sliders or PDFs
  • Page speed, mobile layout and HTTPS checked and fixed
Website

Describe your business to machines

  • Schema.org structured data in JSON-LD: LocalBusiness or Organization, Service, Product, FAQPage, Review and BreadcrumbList
  • sameAs links that tie your website to your Google, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and Yelp profiles
  • Title tags, meta descriptions and Open Graph tags, so every shared link shows the right title, image and summary
  • An llms.txt file: a plain-text summary of your site for AI tools. Some tools read it and Google has said it doesn't use it. It takes little time, so we add it.
Listings

Make your details match everywhere

  • The same name, address, phone, hours and description on Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yelp, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram
  • Duplicate and outdated listings found and cleaned up
  • If another company has a similar name, we make the difference clear so assistants don't mix the two of you up
Content

Write content AI can quote

  • A page for each service and each area you serve
  • The key answers near the top: who you help, how pricing works, how long it takes, where you work
  • FAQ sections built from questions your customers actually ask
  • Social bios, captions and video descriptions that use the words people search with
Reputation

Build trust outside your website

  • A simple routine for asking happy clients for Google reviews
  • Listings on the directories and industry sites that AI tools cite in your field
  • Local press, podcast and partner mentions where they fit
Reporting

Track it every month

  • We ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot and Google AI Mode the questions your customers ask, and record who gets named and which pages get cited
  • Visits from AI assistants tracked in Google Analytics 4
  • A short monthly report: what changed, what we fixed, what comes next

For your web team

What it looks like in the code

Most of this work is invisible to visitors. It lives in the page code and in a few files at the root of your site. Here is a short sample of what we add.

We work on WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Shopify and custom-coded sites.

Straight answer

What no one can promise

No agency controls what an AI assistant says. Models get updated, answers vary from person to person, and the same question can return different names on different days.

What we can do is remove the reasons a business gets left out, and show you each month how often you are mentioned and which of your pages are cited. If someone guarantees you a spot in ChatGPT's answers, ask them how they plan to keep that promise.

Who this is for

  • Restaurants and cafes
  • Salons, clinics and local services
  • Contractors and home services
  • E-commerce and product brands
  • Coaches, consultants and personal brands
  • B2B and IT services
  • Nonprofits

Questions

Common questions about AI search

Do I still need SEO if I invest in GEO?

Yes. Most AI assistants pull their sources from search indexes such as Google and Bing. If search engines cannot crawl and index your site, AI assistants will have a hard time finding it. GEO is built on top of SEO.

How long does it take to show up in AI answers?

Technical fixes and listing updates are usually picked up within a few weeks, once your pages are recrawled. Being mentioned in AI answers usually takes longer, often a few months, because assistants also rely on reviews, directories and other websites.

Do I need a new website?

Usually not. We start with the site you have. If your content is locked inside images, or the site is too slow or too hard to crawl, we explain the options and what each one costs.

Which AI platforms do you cover?

ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity and Claude.

Does GEO include social media?

Yes. AI assistants read public profiles on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. We align your bios, descriptions and links with your website so every source describes your business the same way.

Can you guarantee my business will be recommended?

No one can. AI companies update their models often and answers vary between users. We remove the reasons a business gets left out and report every month how often you are mentioned and cited.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the size of your site and how many listings and pages need work. We quote after the first audit. The first consultation is free.
